Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most frequent questions about the project of organ restoration in Strahov Basilica:

Why is it necessary to restore the Strahov organ?

The organ is in a critical condition after many decades of use and several inappropriate rebuilds from the 1980s. The small choir organ is completely non-functional and silent. The large organ is at the end of its useful life. Without extensive restoration, their sound will be completely lost. Restoring historic organs requires careful work by skilled craftsmen and the use of special materials to preserve the authentic elements of the original instrument.

The project of restoration of the Strahov organ is carried out by the Royal Canon of the Premonstratensians in Strahov in cooperation with experts in historical organs and restorers. At the same time, it contributes half of the funding for the restoration.

The planned completion date for the restoration of the choir organ is the end of 2025.

The estimated cost of the complete restoration of the choir organ was estimated at 445,000 Euros. The work on the choir organ is being carried out by the winning company ORGELBAU WALTERSHAUSEN
